Srijit Mukherjee was born on 28th September 1977 in Kolkata. He is coming from a Non Filmy Background. Earlier Srijit went Dolna Day School and South Point High School in Kolkata. Then he joined Presidency College for studying Economics and went to Jawaharlal Neheru University for MA and M Phill in Environmental Economics.
When he was studying he was also working with TERI in New Delhi as a Social Scientist in Urban Transport and Pollution Sector. Completeing M Phill Srijit Mukherjee became busy for PhD but he left it in the first year and joined IRI Symphony, Bangalore.
Srijit Mukherjee started his showbiz career with Acting in theatres. He was a active member of some professional theatre group in Delhi and Bangalore. He acted in many dramas like Madness, Orchard of Bamcharam, The Otherside of History and many more.
He also wrote and directed a drama for stage, that was Mindgame in 2006. Then he formed his own troupe Pandora’s Act, The first production was Feluda Ferot. 2008 and 2009 he wrote and directed many Theatre Production.
Then Srijit Join Anjan Dutta to Assist in Madly Bangalee and Aparna Sen for Iti Mrinalini in 2009. He wrote songs and acted in both films. At that time he also wrote lyrics for Cross Connection, Le Chakka and other Television Series. He wrote songs for Usha Utthup also for her Non Film albums.
Autograph starring Prasenjit Chattopadhyay, Kankana Sen Sharma was the first feature film of Srijit Mukherjee and it was huge success and ran for 4 months at the box office. Music Director, Song Writer and Singer Anupam Roy was made his debut with this film also. The film won more than 40 Awards. After Autograph he never made a Flop Film in his film career.
Baishe Srabon in 2011was his second film, it was very successful and critically acclaimed from various sources. It was a multi starrer film with Prasenjit Chatterjee, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Abir Chatterjee, Gautam Ghosh, Raima Sen and others. Baise Srabon was a Suspense thriller about serial killing. This is the first Bengali film where we have seen slangs without beeps in Bengali cinema.
Hemlock Society is Third production of Srijit Mukherjee with Parambrata Chatterjee and Koel Mallick in 2012. Hemlock Society was a Comedy and Romantic film. This film was about Death.
Miswor Rahosyo based on Sunil Gangopahdyay’s Kakabau Character was the Most Expensive film on that time in Bengali Film Industry. It was a Six Corer movie where an average Bnegali Movie made with 2 and 3 corers. It was a successful movie but it was not get good response from Critics.
Jatiswar in 2014 was a Very good movie, probably the best film of Srijit Mukherjee. The film was actually a master piece for its music. It is a musical bridge between two centuries. Jatiswar won Four National Awards for Music Direction, Playback Singing, Costume and Makeup.
His next direction Chotushkone made him a National Award Winning Director. Srijit Mukherjee got National Award for Best Direction and Best Original Screenplay for Chotushkone in 2015.
Nirbaak was the single flop film in his career. It was a high thought film starring with Sushmita Sen, Anjan Dutta, Rwittik Chakarborty. Nirbaak also won some awards and manage to get good response from critics.
Srijit Mukherjee’s last release Rajkahini was also a Successful film and got very good response from audiences. Story of some prostitute who did not want to leave their house due to divided Bengal policy in 1947. It was a fictional story based the dividing Bengal policy.
Rituparna Sengupta considerd that it was the most strong character in her career. With Rituparna there were Sudipta, Sohini, Parno Mitra, Rudranil Ghosh, Abir Chatterjee, Saswata Chatterjee, Kaushik Sen, Rajatava Dutta and others.
Srijit is now busy to make Begamjaan , Hindi Version of Rajkahini with Vidya Balan.
